Pallet wrappers

Pallet wrapper range, specified for Australian production lines

A pallet wrapper wraps stretch film around a loaded pallet to lock the load together for transport. Whittaker Packaging Solutions supplies pallet wrappers across the full spectrum: entry-level mechanical-brake turntable units for sites doing 20 pallets a day, semi-automatic and fully automatic machines for higher throughput, and robotic rotary-arm wrappers for loads that can't move.

~70 yearsCombined packaging machinery experience on the WPS team

Pallet wrappers are the heart of the WPS range and the equipment our team knows best. The gap between the right wrapper and the wrong one isn't a few features. It's thousands of dollars a year in film cost, plus pallets that arrive with a rolled film tail and a layer slid sideways.

We specify every wrapper for the environment it'll sit in, tune pre-stretch ratios and force-to-load on commissioning, and show operators what good wrap looks like before we leave site.

Our advice on pallet wrappers is independent of any film revenue.

Why WPS

Why buy a pallet wrapper from Whittaker Packaging Solutions

Most recommendations carry a quiet bias toward whichever film line the supplier wants to move that quarter. Ours don't. When we recommend a power pre-stretch unit over a mechanical-brake machine, it's because the maths supports it for your pallets-per-day.

We also specify wrappers built from components you can source locally. Drive belts, photo-eyes, contactors, VSDs: where standard parts do the job, we use them. That keeps your spare-parts bill down and a breakdown more likely back up tomorrow than next week.

Above 80 pallets a day, the gap between a low-end mechanical-brake wrapper and a power pre-stretch unit isn't ticket price, it's film cost. A well-tuned power pre-stretch wrapper can elongate film up to about 250 percent, cutting your film spend roughly in half over a year. We'll walk you through that maths first, because the wrong choice gets expensive fast.

Specifications

Pallet wrapper specifications, plain English first

Four things drive the buying decision: the film delivery system (mechanical brake vs power pre-stretch), the film carriage (single vs dual, pre-stretch ratio), wrap pattern programming, and the structural side (turntable diameter, max load weight and height, ramps, scales, conveyor integration on automatics).

Throughput (pallets/day)Typical recommendation
Under 20Entry-level turntable, mechanical brake, manual attach
20-60Semi-automatic turntable, often power pre-stretch once you cross ~40/day
60-150Semi-auto or low-tier automatic, power pre-stretch, programmable patterns
150-plusFully automatic in-line wrapper, conveyor-integrated, auto-attach and auto-cut-and-weld

Starting points, not rules. Pallet height, load stability, operator availability and floor space all change the answer.

Choosing the right pallet wrapper

Before we quote, we'll ask pallets per day (average and peak), max weight, max and min dimensions, loading method (forklift, electric jack, hand truck, which drives whether you need a ramp), whether you need built-in scales, the product being wrapped, and the operating environment (cold room, wet area, outdoor, polished or unfinished floor).

Some of this we confirm by phone. For larger or trickier installs, we'll book a free on-site validation visit to confirm fit, power and access first.

Service and support, where it counts

Full service, preventative maintenance and breakdown support for pallet wrappers runs across South East Queensland, Toowoomba and Melbourne / VIC. Typical breakdown response is 24-48 hours during business hours, especially in our key service hubs. We service most quality competitor wrappers too, so if you've inherited one, call us with the make and model.

Outside those full-coverage areas, we supply and deliver wrappers, with service via scheduled runs and ad-hoc visits where feasible.

FAQs

Common questions

A pallet wrapper is an end-of-line packaging machine that wraps stretch film around a loaded pallet to secure the load for transport. It replaces hand-wrapping, cuts film cost significantly when specified correctly, and gives you a more consistent load.
