Semi Automatic Pallet Wrappers from Whittaker Packaging Solutions
A semi automatic pallet wrapper is the workhorse of most Australian warehouses. The operator drives the pallet onto the turntable, clips the film tail to a corner, presses start, then cuts the film at the end. The machine does the wrapping; the operator handles the start and finish.

The range
Semi-automatic pallet wrappers we supply
Mechanical-brake and powered-prestretch turntable wrappers, sized to your pallets per day and load profile.
Whittaker Packaging Solutions (WPS) supplies semi-automatic pallet wrapping machines into FMCG, food production, logistics, agriculture and general manufacturing across South East Queensland, Toowoomba and Melbourne. For most sites wrapping 20 to 80 pallets a day, this is the right category to start in.
Why WPS
Why a semi automatic pallet wrapper with Whittaker Packaging Solutions
A semi-automatic wrapper makes sense for most Australian businesses because the per-pallet labour of attaching and cutting film is small, and the capital outlay sits well below a fully automatic line. You get consistent wrap quality, repeatable film usage and a real step up from hand wrapping, without overbuilding the line.
Where we add value is stopping you buying the wrong semi-automatic machine. An entry unit with a mechanical brake carriage looks like a saving on day one, then costs 30-50% more in film over a year than a power pre-stretch unit costing roughly double upfront. We run those numbers with you first.
Plain English: pre-stretch means the machine stretches the film before it wraps the load, so each metre covers more pallet. Mechanical brake just drags the film with friction. Power pre-stretch stretches it much further (often up to 250%), which directly cuts your film spend.

What's involved in a semi-automatic pallet wrapping machine
A semi-automatic pallet wrapper is built around a turntable and a powered mast that carries the film carriage up and down. The basic specification varies, but the components worth checking are:
Turntable diameter and weight rating (typical: 1,500-2,000 mm, 1,500-2,500 kg)
Film carriage type: mechanical brake, friction-feed pre-stretch, or power pre-stretch
Pre-stretch ratio (the higher the better for film economy)
Programmable wrap cycles (top + bottom wraps, dwell time, rotation speed)
Forklift-loadable low-profile turntable vs ramped turntable for pallet jack loading
Photo-eye load height detection
Soft start to handle unstable loads
Optional scales built into the turntable
The two specification choices that matter most are pre-stretch carriage type (the film cost decision) and loading method (forklift vs pallet jack vs hand truck, which determines whether you need a ramp or a low-profile deck).
Questions we ask before recommending one
To scope a semi-automatic pallet wrapping machine properly, the WPS team needs:
Pallets per day (average and peak)
Maximum load weight, height and footprint
Minimum load dimensions
Loading method (forklift, electric pallet jack, hand truck)
Whether a ramp is needed for non-forklift loading
Whether you need integrated scales
What product is being wrapped and how stable the load is
Operating environment (cold room, wet, outdoor, polished floor)
Any film type you are locked into for downstream compatibility
The honest answer for many sites is that the entry-level unit is fine. We will tell you that directly when it is the case. We will also tell you when it isn't.
Service coverage across SEQ, Toowoomba and Melbourne
Whittaker Packaging Solutions provides full service, preventative maintenance and breakdown support across South East Queensland, Toowoomba and Melbourne. Typical breakdown response is 24-48 hours during business hours, especially in our key service hubs.
We supply and deliver semi-automatic wrappers into Northern NSW and Regional QLD (Roma, Bundaberg), with service and breakdown on a scheduled or FIFO basis. Discuss it before you commit to a machine that will live a long drive from a service hub.
Delivery, installation, commissioning and operator training are included on our own-brand machines.

Talk to us before you buy
Send us your application details: pallets per day, load specs, loading method, environment. We come back with a configured spec sheet and a film-cost comparison against your current setup. No site visit needed for most semi-automatic enquiries, though we're happy to come on site if it helps.
FAQs
Common questions
A semi automatic pallet wrapper is a turntable-based machine where the operator loads the pallet, attaches the film tail and cuts the film at the end. The machine handles the wrapping cycle. This is the category most Australian warehouses use day to day.
