Carton erectors from Whittaker Packaging Solutions

A carton erector replaces the worst job in any pack room: folding flat cartons, taping the bottoms and queueing them for the line. Whittaker Packaging Solutions supplies and supports carton erectors that take a flat blank, square it up, fold and tape the bottom, and deliver an open, ready-to-fill carton to your packing station.

The range

Carton erectors we supply

Automatic carton erectors that take flat pack to taped, open-top cartons at line speed, with full safety guarding.

For a busy line running a few hundred to several thousand cartons a day, the labour saving alone usually pays the machine back inside 12 to 18 months. The consistency is the other win: every carton arrives at the filling station square, sealed and ready to take product.

We sell our carton erectors under the WPS brand and back them with service, parts and breakdown cover from our SEQ and Melbourne hubs.

Why WPS

Why specify a carton erector with Whittaker Packaging Solutions

Most carton erectors look similar on paper. The differences that matter (vacuum cup placement, mandrel tolerance, tape head reliability, frame rigidity) only show up in the first six months of operation. We've seen the patterns.

When we quote, the WPS team looks at

Your carton blank quality. Cheap, warped blanks defeat good machines.

Your throughput at peak, not average.

Carton size range. A machine that handles your full range with minimal changeover.

Floor space and integration with downstream conveyors, fillers and sealers.

If your blank tolerance is borderline for the machine, we flag it before the order, not after the install. That puts blank quality and supplier specs on the table while it's still useful.

What a carton erector does

The basic sequence is the same across most machines:

Magazine holds a stack of flat carton blanks

Vacuum cups pull one blank from the magazine

The blank is opened, squared, and held against a mandrel

Bottom flaps are folded in the correct sequence

Tape head applies tape across the bottom centre seam

The open, taped carton is delivered to your fill station or conveyor

Most machines we supply handle 8 to 18 cartons per minute. Faster machines exist for high-volume FMCG lines, and we can spec those where the throughput case is clear.

Choosing

Choosing the right carton erector

The questions we ask before quoting a carton erector:

Carton dimensions, smallest and largest you run

Number of SKUs and how often you change over

Carton blank specification: board grade, score depth, glue tab tolerance

Throughput target at peak hour

Tape type preference, including any move to water-activated tape on heavier cartons

Available floor space and orientation (machine direction)

Power supply and compressed air availability

If you can send blank samples, we'll often ask for them before final spec. A machine matched to your actual blank, not a generic blank, runs better and breaks down less.

Carton erector pairings

A carton erector is rarely a standalone purchase. We usually quote it as part of a small line:

Carton erector (this page) at the front

A fill station, hand or automatic, in the middle

Automatic carton sealer at the back, see our automatic carton sealers page

A strapping or wrapping machine downstream where required

If your downstream is already in place, we'll match the erector to fit. If you're starting fresh, we'll spec the whole line.

FAQs

Common questions

Most carton erectors we supply through Whittaker Packaging Solutions handle 8 to 18 cartons per minute, with higher-throughput models available where the volume justifies it. The real-world rate depends on carton size, blank quality, and how reliably your downstream takes the erected carton. We size to your peak hour so the erector isn't the bottleneck.
