Pallet Wrapper Hire from Whittaker Packaging Solutions

Pallet wrapper hire is available through Whittaker Packaging Solutions (WPS) for short-term and interim needs. It's a niche part of what we do, and for most businesses finance on a new machine works out better than ongoing rental. This page explains when hire makes sense and when it doesn't, so you can pick the right path.

When hire fits

When pallet wrapper hire makes sense

There are a handful of genuine cases where renting a pallet wrapper is the right call:

Seasonal peaks

a business that wraps 30 pallets a week most of the year and 200 a week for six weeks (harvest, end of financial year, Christmas) may justify a hire unit just for the peak.

Project work

a one-off contract or short-term packing run where the equipment isn't needed past the project end date.

Stop-gap during machine breakdown

a hire unit on site while your own machine is in for major repair, keeping the line moving.

Site relocation or expansion gap

bridging a few weeks or months between an old setup leaving and the new install going in.

For these cases, the WPS team can usually arrange a hire pallet wrapper into South East Queensland, Toowoomba or Melbourne with reasonable notice. Talk to us early; we hold limited stock and lead times depend on availability.

When pallet wrapper hire does not make sense

The honest answer for ongoing operations: hire is usually the wrong commercial structure if you are wrapping every day.

Three reasons long-term rental usually backfires

Hire economics work against you over 12+ months.

The cost of a year of hire on a quality semi-automatic wrapper typically lands close to the purchase price of the same machine. Two years of hire costs more than buying outright.

Hire fleets are usually entry-level machines.

Most rental units are basic mechanical brake wrappers. If you wrap any meaningful volume, the film cost penalty of running a mechanical brake unit (often 30-50% more film per pallet than a tuned power pre-stretch machine) wipes out any apparent saving on the rental fee.

Finance is usually the better structure.

For most ongoing operations, a finance arrangement on a new own-brand machine gives you a known monthly payment, full warranty, full service backup, the right specification for your loads, and ownership at the end. The numbers usually beat ongoing hire inside the first year.

If you're wrapping 20 or more pallets a day on an ongoing basis, we'll usually recommend buying or financing over hiring. And we'll say so directly.

Finance is the alternative most ongoing users should consider

A finance arrangement on a pallet wrapper from WPS gets you:

A machine specified for your actual loads and throughput, not whatever is in the hire fleet

Power pre-stretch carriage (if it suits your volume), with the film savings that come with it

Full warranty

Delivery, installation, commissioning and operator training included

Service and breakdown support across SEQ, Toowoomba and Melbourne

Ownership at the end of the term

Talk to us about finance options early. We work with several lenders and can usually structure a payment that lines up with the film and labour savings the new machine delivers, so the monthly cost is offset from day one.

How WPS handles hire enquiries

When you contact us about pallet wrapper hire, the process is:

01

Phone conversation

To understand the application: what you're wrapping, for how long, where on site, what loading method.

02

Honest recommendation

If hire suits the situation, we scope the right unit and confirm availability. If finance suits better, we tell you and walk you through that option.

03

Quote

Covering hire rate, delivery, installation, removal and any consumables included.

04

Delivery and basic operator handover

At the start of the hire term.

05

Service support during the hire

In our SEQ, Toowoomba and Melbourne coverage areas.

Service coverage during the hire

For hire units installed in South East Queensland, Toowoomba or Melbourne, Whittaker Packaging Solutions provides service and breakdown support during the term. Typical breakdown response is 24-48 hours during business hours, especially in our key service hubs.

For sites in Northern NSW or Regional QLD, hire may be possible but service response is on a scheduled or FIFO basis, and we'll be upfront about that during scoping. If continuous uptime matters more than rental flexibility, buying or financing a machine you own may be the safer call.

Talk to us about your situation

The right answer between hire and finance depends on your situation. Send us a quick description of what you need (purpose, expected term, location, throughput) and we'll come back with a recommendation. If hire is the right call, we'll quote it. If finance makes more sense, we'll say so.

FAQs

Common questions

Yes, for short-term and interim needs. Pallet wrapper hire is available through WPS into South East Queensland, Toowoomba and Melbourne. For ongoing daily wrapping, we usually recommend finance on a new machine instead, because the commercial numbers tend to favour ownership over the medium term.
