Semi automatic strapping machines from Whittaker Packaging Solutions
A semi automatic strapping machine is the workhorse of most Australian despatch benches. Whittaker Packaging Solutions supplies bench-mounted semi-automatic strapping machines that are fast enough for a busy day, simple enough for any operator to run, and reliable enough that maintenance can forget about them.

The range
Semi-automatic strapping machines we supply
Floor-standing semi-automatic PP machines on castors for everyday carton and bundle strapping, built to last for Australian conditions.
WPS specifies these machines for real-world Australian use, with stocked spares and a service team that knows them inside out.
Why WPS
Why a semi automatic strapping machine
Strapping 50 to 500 cartons or bundles a day, a semi-automatic table-top is usually the right fit. It costs a fraction of an inline automatic, sits on a bench, and most operators can run one inside ten minutes of training.
A semi automatic strapping machine from Whittaker Packaging Solutions isn't a hobby unit, and it isn't capacity you'll never use. We size the machine to the work, not the catalogue.

How a semi automatic strapping machine works
The operator drops the carton on the table, feeds the loose strap end around it by hand, and inserts the tail into the channel. The machine tensions, heat-seals and cuts the strap, then re-feeds a new loop for the next cycle.
Cycle time is typically 1.5 to 2.5 seconds for a standard carton. The re-feed is the part most operations under-value: the operator's hand is free for the next load almost immediately.
The seal is a heated platen that melts the strap overlap, then cools under pressure. Get the temperature, dwell time and tension right and the seal holds 75 to 85% of the strap's break strength.
Where a semi-automatic strapping machine sits in the WPS range
Three places it makes sense:
Despatch bench in a small-to-mid operation.
One operator, multiple SKUs, no conveyor.
Second-line backup
behind an automatic strapping machine. If the auto goes down, work doesn't stop.
Variable load sizes
that an arch machine can't easily accommodate. Long timber, irregular bundles, mixed pallet packing.
We talk through which of these you fit before recommending a specific model.
What to look for in a semi automatic strapping machine
A few features separate a good bench machine from a frustrating one:
Strap track quality. Cheap tracks jam on damp or curled strap. Better units guide cleanly.
Tension control. A knob is fine for fixed loads. A digital tension setting matters if you're switching between fragile and heavy stock.
Heat-seal element. The element will eventually wear. We choose models with quick element swaps, not a half-day rebuild.
Strap dispenser. A bottom-loading dispenser keeps the coil tidy and the changeover fast.
Height. Bench height matters for operator wrist comfort over a long shift. We can spec a frame stand to match your bench.
What's included with a new machine
Every new semi-automatic strapping machine from Whittaker Packaging Solutions includes delivery, installation if required, operator training and a documented tension and seal setting for your application. We also leave a basic spare parts list so common wear items don't catch the maintenance team out.
Service and parts
WPS provides full service and breakdown support across South East Queensland, Toowoomba and Melbourne. Typical breakdown response is 24-48 hours during business hours, especially in our key service hubs.
We service most quality competitor machines. If a bench-top unit from another supplier needs a new heat element, feed wheel or tension assembly, send us the make and model.
For Regional QLD (Roma and Bundaberg) and Northern NSW, we supply machines and parts and run scheduled service visits where feasible.

Ask us about a machine on this page
Tell us your daily strap count, the strap width you run or want, and the rough load size. We'll point you at the right semi automatic strapping machine in the WPS range and send a spec sheet. Want a strap-and-seal demonstration on one of your loads? Book a free on-site validation visit.
FAQs
Common questions
A semi automatic strapping machine is a bench-mounted unit where the operator manually feeds the strap around the load, then the machine tensions, seals and cuts it. The Whittaker Packaging Solutions semi automatic strapping machine range covers standard despatch through to heavier industrial bench-tops.
