Carton & tape
Carton taping machines from Whittaker Packaging Solutions
A carton taping machine applies a consistent strip of tape to the top and bottom seam of a filled carton, replacing slow, inconsistent hand taping. Whittaker Packaging Solutions supplies and supports carton taping machines from simple semi-automatic units for small pack rooms through to fully automatic case sealers for high-volume FMCG and logistics lines.
We sell our carton taping machines under the WPS brand and back them with parts, service and breakdown support from our South East Queensland and Melbourne hubs.
The right machine depends on throughput, carton mix, and how much operator time you want to free up for higher-value work. We help you work that out before you spend.
Why WPS
Why source a carton taping machine through Whittaker Packaging Solutions
We specify the right unit for your throughput, your carton range and your floor space, and we explain the trade-offs in plain language. The recommendation stays independent of consumable margin, so the machine you end up with is the one that runs cleanly with the least tape.
What we do differently
Confirm your full carton size range before quoting, not just the common one
Match the tape head to the tape you actually use, including plastic, hot melt or water activated
Size the machine for peak hour throughput, not average
Include delivery, installation, commissioning and operator training on own-brand sales
The three common formats
There are three broad formats of carton taping machine, and the right call depends on your volumes:
Manual tape gun.
Hand-held, low volume, no machine cost but high labour cost per carton. Fine for a handful of cartons a day.
Semi-automatic carton taping machine.
Operator places the carton in the machine and pushes it through, tape head applies top and bottom seam. Typical throughput 8 to 15 cartons per minute. Good fit for 100 to 1,000 cartons a day.
Automatic carton sealing machine.
Conveyor-driven, folds top flaps, drives carton through tape heads, ejects sealed carton. Typical throughput 15 to 30 cartons per minute. Suits sites running 500+ cartons a day or where labour is a real constraint.
If you're sitting at 200 to 500 cartons a day, a semi-automatic carton taping machine is usually the sweet spot. Above that, the labour saving from an automatic sealer usually pays back within 12 to 18 months.
Specifying
What to think about before specifying
Send the WPS team:
Smallest and largest carton dimensions (length, width, height)
Carton mix and changeover frequency
Throughput target at peak hour
Tape type: PVC, polypropylene, hot melt, water activated
Floor space and orientation for the machine
Whether the carton arrives at the machine pre-flap-closed or open
We size the machine to the work and confirm fit on your blanks and tape before quoting.
Service and support across SEQ, Toowoomba and Victoria
Whittaker Packaging Solutions provides full service, preventative maintenance and breakdown support for carton taping machines across South East Queensland (Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast), Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, and Melbourne and broader Victoria. Typical breakdown response is 24-48 hours during business hours, especially in our key service hubs.
For Northern NSW and Regional Queensland (Roma and Bundaberg), we supply and deliver machines with service through scheduled runs and ad-hoc visits where feasible. We stock spare parts for the machines we supply.
We service most quality competitor machines too, so if an existing carton taping machine is giving you trouble, talk to us about a service call before assuming you need a replacement.

Book a free on-site validation visit
Specifying a carton taping machine off a spec sheet alone misses too much. A 30-minute walk-through lets us see how cartons present, how operators handle them, and where the real bottleneck sits. We offer free on-site validation visits across our full service area. Call the team or use the enquiry form.
FAQs
Common questions
The terms are often used interchangeably. In WPS usage, a carton taping machine is the general category, covering semi-automatic and automatic units that apply tape to carton seams. A carton sealer typically refers to a fully automatic conveyor-driven unit. The mechanism (tape head + carton handling) is similar across both; the level of automation differs.
