Strapping
PP strapping machines from Whittaker Packaging Solutions
A PP strapping machine handles the bulk of carton, light bundle and unit-pack work done in Australian warehouses every day. Whittaker Packaging Solutions supplies polypropylene strapping machines from bench-top semi-automatic units through to inline automatic arch machines, with the install, training and service that backs them.

The range
PP strapping machines we supply
Semi-automatic and automatic polypropylene strapping machines for everyday carton and bundle work. Send us your strap width and daily carton count and we'll match the right machine.
PP strapping isn't trying to do what PET does. It's a faster, cheaper, lighter-duty option that suits most carton work, and the WPS range is built around that reality.
Why WPS
Why a PP strapping machine
Polypropylene strap costs less per metre than PET, runs faster on bench and arch machines, and seals cleanly with a standard heated platen. For most carton-and-bundle work, that's the right balance of speed and cost.
A PP strapping machine from Whittaker Packaging Solutions is sized to your daily volume, not the highest-spec unit on the floor. We've installed enough across food, FMCG and logistics to know which configurations hold up in three-shift work.

PP vs PET strapping at a glance
The short version:
PP (polypropylene)
is lighter-duty, cheaper per metre, runs at lower tension (typically up to 1500N), and seals with a heat platen. Right for cartons, light bundles, magazines, unit packs, anything under about 100kg that won't shift.
PET (polyester)
is higher tension, holds load settling, runs at much higher force (up to 4500N+), seals by friction weld, and replaces steel in heavy applications.
PP is the workhorse of carton strapping, PET of pallet and heavy-bundle strapping. Most operations end up with both for different jobs. We'll size each machine to the right work during a site visit.
How a PP strapping machine works
A PP strapping machine threads polypropylene strap around the load, tensions it, then heat-seals the overlap with a platen. The seal cools under pressure to a consistent break-strength of around 65 to 75% of the strap.
Semi-automatic bench-top. Operator loops the strap around the load by hand and inserts the tail. Cycle time around 2 seconds.
Automatic arch. Strap is threaded by the machine. Operator places the load, the cycle fires automatically. Faster, more consistent, but needs a stable load size.
There's also a heavier-duty side-seal variant for pallet-strapping PP machines that we'll spec where the application calls for it.
What to look for in a polypropylene strapping machine
A few decisions matter:
Strap width. Most PP runs 5mm to 12mm wide. Cartons go down to 5mm. Heavier bundles run 9mm or 12mm.
Tension range. Cartons need light, consistent tension. Too much and the strap cuts into the carton edge.
Heat element quality. This is the part that wears. Better elements last longer and swap faster.
Strap track design. A clean strap path means fewer jams on humid days.
Arch size (for automatic units). Match it to the largest load you regularly run, not the largest theoretical load.
We talk through these in the quote conversation. No part of it is mysterious, but the wrong call adds up over a year.
What's included with a new PP strapping machine
Delivery, installation if required, commissioning, operator training and a documented tension and heat-seal setting for your application. We also leave a basic spare parts and consumables guide with the maintenance team.
Service and breakdown coverage
Whittaker Packaging Solutions provides full service and breakdown support across South East Queensland, Toowoomba and Melbourne. Typical breakdown response is 24-48 hours during business hours, especially in our key service hubs.
We service most quality competitor PP strapping machines. If yours is missing tension, jamming, or producing weak seals, send us the make and model.
For Regional QLD (Roma and Bundaberg) and Northern NSW, machine supply and parts are available, with scheduled service runs and ad-hoc breakdown attendance where feasible.

Request a spec sheet
Tell us your strap width, daily carton count and rough load size. We'll send back the right WPS PP strapping machine spec sheet, with sample tension and heat settings for your application. Prefer to start on the phone? Ask for a free phone consultation. We can often size the right model in ten minutes.
FAQs
Common questions
A PP strapping machine straps loads using polypropylene strap, tensioning and heat-sealing it around the carton or bundle. The Whittaker Packaging Solutions PP strapping machine range covers semi-automatic bench-tops and automatic arch units.
